…Participants Laud Administration’s Commitment to Modern Livestock Development
Further advancing Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s livestock transformation agenda, the Gombe State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has trained 168 cooperative leaders across the state on cooperative governance, financial management, business planning, record keeping, and documentation.
The training, organised by the Gombe L-PRES State Coordination Office, brought together leaders of more than 55 livestock cooperatives from different parts of the state as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and promote sustainable livestock development.
Declaring the training open at the Education Resource Centre, Gombe, the State Project Coordinator of Gombe L-PRES, Prof. Usman Bello Abubakar, commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, for what he described as deliberate and strategic policies aimed at modernising the livestock sector in the state.
He said the administration is repositioning livestock production from a traditional practice into a viable and profitable business capable of providing sustainable livelihoods for people across the livestock value chain.
According to him, initiatives such as the Gombe Ultra-Modern Abattoir and the Artificial Insemination Programme form part of broader government efforts to improve livestock productivity, profitability, and resilience.
Prof. Abubakar explained that the training was designed to equip cooperative leaders with practical knowledge in cooperative management, financial accountability, documentation, and business planning to enhance efficiency and strengthen the implementation of government livestock policies.
“Following the successful establishment and registration of 55 dairy farmers’ cooperatives across the state, we commenced a series of capacity-building programmes, and this training forms part of those efforts,” the Project Coordinator explained.
He noted that the cooperatives would serve as strategic platforms for promoting modern livestock knowledge, encouraging best practices, and driving reforms capable of transforming the sector in line with global standards.
The Project Coordinator urged participants to maximise the opportunity by applying the knowledge gained to improve the operations and management of their cooperatives for the overall growth of the livestock sector in Gombe State.
The programme brought together five representatives from each cooperative, alongside participants from 21 integrated farms across the state.
The training also featured technical sessions facilitated by Dr. Yakubu Ali Mbasua, Dr. Salisu M. Isiyaku, and Dr. Abubakar Bala, who equipped participants with practical knowledge on cooperative management, financial accountability, business planning, and record keeping aimed at strengthening efficiency, transparency, and sustainability across the livestock value chain.
Speaking at the end of the exercise, participants, including the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in Balanga Local Government Area, Hamma-Adama Aliyu, and Hajiya Aisha Ahmad, expressed appreciation to the Gombe State Government and the L-PRES Project for the training.
They observed that no administration in the state has given greater attention to livestock development than the Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration and pledged to utilise the knowledge acquired to improve the management and effectiveness of their cooperatives.
The participants further reaffirmed their support for ongoing government policies aimed at strengthening livestock productivity, peaceful coexistence, and economic development across the state.
