Call for Unity: Katukan Nafada Formalizes Support for APC Consensus Candidates

Posted on May 4, 2026 by Jtimes

An aspirant for the Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, Hon. Salihu Baba Alkali, has formally accepted the emergence of consensus candidates within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging his supporters to prioritize party unity over individual ambitions.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to Jewel Times following the party’s internal selection process, Alkali, popularly known as Katukan Nafada, expressed his full alignment with the party’s decisions.

He specifically congratulated Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna on his emergence as the consensus gubernatorial candidate and Hon. Jamilu Shabewa, who secured the nod to represent the Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency.

Speaking on the Shabewa’s selection, Alkali stated that “As a loyal party man and a believer in destiny, I wholeheartedly accept this decision and pledge my unwavering support to him”.

He noted that the emergence of the candidates reflects the “collective wisdom and unity” of the APC under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

The aspirant emphasized that the success of the party in the upcoming polls depends on the ability of its members to channel their energy toward a common goal.

He called on his political base to view the development through the lens of faith and long-term progress for the constituency.

“I urge my supporters to embrace this outcome with faith and optimism,” Alkali said.

“Our collective goal is the success of the APC – from the presidential race down to the State Assembly. Together, we must channel our energy towards strengthening the party and ensuring that every candidate flying our flag triumphs at the polls.”

Reflecting on his campaign journey, Alkali extended gratitude to Governor Yahaya, his family, and his political associates for their encouragement and sacrifices.

He maintained that despite the shift in his personal trajectory, the vision for regional progress remains intact.

He told his supporters that “Your sacrifices, encouragement, and belief in my aspiration mean more than words can express. I urge you to remain steadfast as loyal party members for our shared vision of progress.”

The move by Alkali is seen as a significant boost to the APC’s efforts to maintain a cohesive front in Gombe State, as the party navigates the complexities of consensus building ahead of the next electoral cycle.
