Zakariya Jidda is attracting growing political support in Gombe State following his sponsorship of 30 youths from Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye local government areas to pursue studies in China.

The scholarship programme has been widely applauded by community stakeholders, who describe it as a strategic effort to invest in human capital and expand opportunities for young people at the grassroots.

At a town hall meeting organised by the Zakariya Jidda APC Youth Support Group in Funakaye, speakers drawn from across the three local government areas commended the initiative, noting that it reflects inclusive leadership and a long-term vision for development.

Coordinator of the group, Comrade Nura Shuaibu Musa, said the selection of beneficiaries was carefully handled to ensure fairness and equal representation.

According to him, the intervention goes beyond charity, pointing to a deliberate commitment to education and youth empowerment.

“This initiative is about building the future of our constituency. It shows foresight and a genuine concern for the development of our people,” Musa said.

He added that the growing support for Jidda underscores confidence in his leadership potential, urging the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to consider him for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Also speaking, Uzaifa Ali Bigji described Jidda as a committed grassroots mobiliser whose contributions to community development predate his political ambition.

“His impact has been consistent over the years. He has supported many people quietly, and this scholarship is a continuation of that effort,” he said.

Babangida Kupto, another supporter, said Jidda’s acceptance across the constituency positions him as a strong contender capable of drawing support beyond party lines.

“The people believe in him because he listens and responds to their needs. If given the opportunity, he will perform,” he said.

Other stakeholders, including Sarkin Matasan Funakaye, Alhaji Musa Goje, and Hon. Muhammad Ajiya, described Jidda as a unifying figure whose initiatives cut across communities in the constituency.

The women leader of the group, Wunan Anthony, said Jidda’s emergence as a candidate would further boost the participation of women and youths in politics.

“He has shown commitment to empowering women and young people. We are confident he will build on this if given the mandate,” she said.

Political observers say Jidda’s rising profile, particularly among young voters, could shape the contest for the APC ticket in the constituency ahead of 2027.

With early mobilisation already underway, supporters are increasingly positioning him as a formidable aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Federal Constituency.
