A prominent political advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe; Gombe State APC Promoters Forum,has thrown its weight behind the senatorial ambition of Retired Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mohammed Ahmadu, popularly known as Jarman Deba, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the forum, Comrade Idris Maheer Kumo, made the endorsement public during an interaction with journalists, arguing that the Gombe Central Senatorial District deserves experienced and credible representation after what he described as “16 years of ineffective leadership.”
Maheer stated that DCP (Rtd) Mohammed Ahmadu stands out due to his vast professional background, leadership experience, and commitment to public service, stressing that his emergence would usher in meaningful development across the district.
According to him, “Gombe Central is in dire need of a competent, tested and visionary leader. Jarman Deba has the experience, the exposure, and the integrity to deliver quality representation. His contributions to national security and community development speak volumes.”
Highlighting the retired police officer’s career, Maheer noted that Mohammed Ahmadu served in several strategic capacities within the Nigeria Police Force and beyond. His roles included Deputy Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Area Commander in Ikorodu and Apapa, and Assistant Commissioner of Police in Zone 11, Oshogbo.
He also served in specialized units such as the Federal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau (FIIB), Alagbon Close, Lagos, including Interpol-related operations and general investigations. His experience extended to international and inter-agency assignments, including secondment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and participation in the Presidential Task Force on Bombings and Terrorism.
Other notable roles include Coordinator of Anti-Pipeline Vandalization operations along the Mosimi-Ore axis in Ogun State, Commanding Officer of Mobile Police units in Delta and Plateau States, and Consultant Adviser to the Government of Sierra Leone on criminal investigations.
Maheer added that such a diverse security background positions Ahmadu as a candidate capable of addressing both legislative responsibilities and security challenges affecting the region.
Beyond his professional career, the APC chieftain emphasized Ahmadu’s consistent loyalty and contributions to the party. He recalled that the retired DCP contested for the House of Representatives seat for Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency in 2023 and played key roles in the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organization.
“He served as a member of the Security and Intelligence Committee at both national and state campaign levels, coordinated grassroots mobilization, and contributed immensely to the party’s electoral success in Gombe State,” Maheer noted.
The APC Promoters Forum chairman also framed the endorsement as a matter of fairness and inclusivity, insisting that Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area should be given the opportunity to produce the next senator for Gombe Central.
“It is time for equity and justice. Yamaltu/Deba has waited long enough. The people deserve a voice at the Senate, and Jarman Deba is the right man for the job,” he said.
He called on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, APC stakeholders, and party delegates to consider Ahmadu’s credentials and give him the party’s senatorial ticket.
DCP (Rtd) Mohammed Ahmadu holds a range of academic and professional qualifications, including diplomas from Olabisi Onabanjo University and Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, as well as advanced training from the Police Academy in Egypt and the Police Staff College, Jos.
He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and holds fellowships in criminology and security management.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, endorsements such as this are expected to shape the internal dynamics of the APC in Gombe State.
Observers note that the contest for Gombe Central Senatorial seat may become highly competitive, with stakeholders weighing experience, zoning considerations, and grassroots support in determining the party’s flag bearer.
For now, the APC Promoters Forum has made its position clear—backing a candidate they believe has both the pedigree and the capacity to redefine representation in the senatorial district.
