ATBUTH Surgery Department Marks 15 Years of Service

The Surgery Department of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi, has celebrated its 15th Anniversary with a Grand Dinner and Award Night, marking a decade and a half of service in surgical care, training, and research.

 

The event attracted hospital management, consultants, resident doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, retired staff, and invited guests from within and outside Bauchi State.

 

The Event took place at the Conference Hall of ATBUTH, Bauchi, and provided an opportunity for reflection on the department’s growth, achievements, and contributions to healthcare delivery.

 

Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of ATBUTH and Chief Host, Professor Yusuf Bara Jibrin, commended the department for its resilience and teamwork, noting its steady growth in manpower, infrastructure, and range of services despite challenges in the health sector.

 

Professor Jibrin Bara also described the surgery department as a key pillar in the hospital’s clinical and academic mandates.

 

In his speech earlier, The Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, praised the department’s role in training medical students and resident doctors.

 

The Vice Chancellor who was represented by Professor Abdulsalam Ya’u Gital, called for sustained investment in academic medicine, research, and innovation, as well as stronger collaboration between the university and the teaching hospital.

 

Also speaking, the Father of the Day, Dr. Sa’idu Aliyu Gital, Wakilin Maganin Bauchi, applauded the department for its positive impact on the health and wellbeing of people in Bauchi State and beyond.

 

In his welcome address, the Head of the Surgery Department, Dr. Kefas John Bwala, described the anniversary as a time for reflection and renewed commitment, acknowledging the sacrifices of past and present staff and reaffirming the department’s dedication to professionalism, patient safety, and continuous improvement.

 

The celebration also featured the presentation of awards to individuals recognized for excellence, leadership, long service, and outstanding contributions to the growth of the department, bringing the event to a memorable close.
