The Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) has organized its annual capacity building and staff retreat aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, motivating staff, and improving effective service delivery.
The retreat, is a long-standing tradition of the agency since its inception, designed to review performance, reflect on achievements recorded within the year, and strengthen staff capacity.
Declaring the retreat opened, the Executive Secretary Engr Adam Bukar Babaabe said the programme was intended to boost staff performance and consolidate on gains recorded by the agency within the year.
Bababe noted that BOGIS has experienced significant workforce changes due to retirement, death, and transfers, but has continued to record steady growth and improved service delivery.
While stressing the need for continuous and rigorous training to achieving more optimal results, Bababe urged participants to give full attention to the resource persons and actively participate in all sessions.
In their remarks, the Legal Adviser Barrister Mustapha Ali Ibrahim and the Director of Administration and Supply, Yakili Zannah, acknowledged the relevance of the retreat and the quality of the facilitators calling on the staff to translate the knowledge gained into improved administrative practice and efficiency.
Presenting a paper titled “Motivation for Optimal Performance and Productivity in the Public Service,” Dr. Umar Alkali Goni emphasized that staff motivation remains central to quality service delivery.
He identified a conducive working environment, availability of office equipment, continuous training, and staff welfare as key drivers of productivity in the public service.
Dr. Goni particularly commended the Executive Secretary of BOGIS for his consistent commitment to staff motivation, citing capacity-building initiatives and welfare incentives, including the recent sponsorship of deserving Muslim and Christian staff for Hajj and pilgrimage.
Another presentation, “Public Personnel Administration,” was delivered by Mohammed Kagu of Abba Ashigar College of Business and Management Studies, Konduga where he described public personnel administration as the systematic process of managing human resources in government institutions, involving planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and maintaining a productive workforce.
Additional papers presented during the retreat include “Administrative Skills, Clerical Operations and Effective Workflows as Tools for Promoting Administrative Efficiency” by Tsarba Ndirbitah Wadai, and “Effective Communication in the Workplace” by Haman Modu.
Some of the participants, Usman Lamini, Babagana Bunu, Barrister Sharifa, and Alheri Andurus commended the leadership of the Agency under Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe for its consistent investment in staff development.
They noted that such initiatives have significantly improved staff morale, professionalism, and service delivery within the agency.
The retreat also featured a poem presentation by Isabella Ibrahim, a JSS One student, in honour of the leadership and dedication of the Executive Secretary, Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, in advancing land reforms in Borno State.
