The Gombe State European Investment Bank–assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation, Erosion, and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB) has conducted community sensitization exercises in Kagarawal and Unguwa Uku communities, ahead of the commencement of gully erosion control works in the two communities.
Led by the Project’s Coordinator, Dr. Shittu Whanda Ja’afaru, the engagements aimed at fostering community understanding, awareness, and support to ensure smooth and successful project execution.
In both communities, Dr. Ja’afaru reiterated the need for community cooperation and encouraged residents to sustain their support for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, fondly known as the “Green Governor” for his commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
In Unguwa Uku, Dr. Ja’afaru detailed the scope of the intervention, highlighting the commitment of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to rehabilitating the devastating gully through the NEWMAP-EIB initiative.
He reassured the community regarding the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP), stating that its implementation would be seamless and inclusive, and that all previously identified Project Affected Persons (PAPs) would be fully accommodated in the process.
The community leaders, Alhaji Hassan Abubakar of Unguwa Uku and Alhaji Usman A. Bello of Kagarawal, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for acknowledging and addressing the severe environmental threat that has plagued their communities.
They extended their communities’ gratitude to the NEWMAP-EIB team for their dedication to implementing the project and pledged their “unwavering support and commitment” to the project.
