…Praises Its Trajectory In Academic Excellence

The Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States’ Governor’s forum Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has joined hundreds of Nigerians in celebrating the golden jubilee of the premier institution in the North-East, the University of Maiduguri.

In a message to mark the celebration through the Secretary to the State Government and Former Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor felicitates with the institution at 50 stressing that it has left an indelible mark since coming into existence 50 years ago.

Prof Njodi who also served as Chairman of the convocation lecture expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the University for remaining steadfast in the pursuit of academic excellence despite security challenges bedeviling the host state in particular and the North East sub region as a whole.

Introducing the convocation lecturer, Professor Njoɗi recalled with nostalgia how they worked closely with Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro when he was the Executive Secretary of TETFund in bringing in key projects to the University which includes; the Senate Building, Professors Quarters among many others describing Prof Suleiman Elias Bogoro as one of the university’s alumni who contributed to its growth and development, noting that, the university is proud of his contribution.

On the choice of the topic particularly the resilience aspect, Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi described as apt recalling his days as Vice Chancellor and at the peak of insurgency and how they unanimously stood their ground not to close the University as closing it at the time, may means a defeat about western education by the Boko Haram.

He said they remain resilient despite the challenges.

Professor Njodi appreciated the management for the honour giving him to serve as chairman of the 25th Combined convocation lecture assuring the audience that a renown scholar and former Executive Secretary of TETFund will do justice to the chosen topic of discourse.

The convocation lecturer Professor Suleiman Bogoro delivered a lecture titled “The Role of Education as the Anchor for Resilience and Competitiveness Towards Sustainable Development in a Disrupted Economy”.
