The Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe has reeled out plans to establish a renal centre in the state.

According to the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Yusuf Abdullah, the move is to improve service efficiency and reduce the traffic in the FTH renal centre, which will help improve service delivery.

Speaking during a press conference held at the hospital’s board room Thursday, the CMD, who acknowledged the need for subsidising the dialysis for patients diagnosed with kidney diseases, applauded the member representing the Akko Federal Constituency Usman Bello Kumo, for sponsoring the dialysis sessions for patients.

“In the last six months, we conducted more than 600 free sessions courtesy of Usman Bello Kumo, and he wants to continue with the same spirit this year,” he stated.

He added that “The move aimed at easing the burden of patients’ families in the current economic wave is commendable”.

Commenting on the recent takeover of Kumo Specialist Hospital and converting it to a Federal Medical Centre by the Federal Government to help reduce the burden of the FTH, Dr Yusuf commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for building a worthy health infrastructure.

“We must commend the efforts of Governor Inuwa Yahaya in actualising this dream, which will go a long way in boosting the efficiency of medical care for the people of Gombe State and the country at large.” Dr. Yusuf noted.

On his recent reappointment as Chief Medical Officer of FTH Gombe by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Yusuf vowed to make the hospital a medical tourism hub in Nigeria within the next two years.
