Emir General Integrated Limited has petitioned the Gombe State High Court to issue arrest warrants and jail sentences for the directors of Grandscope Construction Limited, alleging they have defied a court order to cease development on a contested land parcel within the state capital.
Barrister Sulaiman Abdurrahim, counsel for Emir General Integrated Limited, presented the request to the court, citing Grandscope Construction Limited’s blatant disregard for the court’s prior injunction, which mandated all parties to refrain from any activity on the disputed land until a ruling is issued.
Speaking to reporters after Monday’s court session, Barrister Sulaiman asserted that the requested arrest and imprisonment order would compel Grandscope Construction Limited to respect the court’s authority.
He also disclosed that the Gombe State Government had formally applied to join the ongoing litigation as a defendant, aligning itself with Grandscope Construction Limited. This development significantly escalates the legal dispute to a new dimension.
However, Barrister Sulaiman dismissed any fear with the state government’s involvement, acknowledging their right to participate in the proceedings.
The core of the case centers on allegations of trespass, with Emir General Integrated Limited accusing Grandscope Construction Limited of illegally encroaching upon their property.
Justice Fatima Musa, the presiding judge, has adjourned the case until March 20, 2025, to rule on the state government’s application to join the lawsuit.
The state government’s decision to enter the land dispute adds a layer of complexity to the proceedings, potentially impacting land ownership and development practices in the state.
