The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi Chapter, have staged a peaceful protest to demand for payment of their four months withheld salaries.
Addressing the protesters who were carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Pay us our withheld salaries”, “Tinubu pay us our wage award” among others, at the gate of Yelwa Campus, the Chairman SSANU Comrade Sulisma Jatau and that of NASU Comrade Yusuf Yusuf explained that the aim of the protest was to draw the attention of the Federal Government to their grievances including non-payment of four months withheld salaries among others.
The chapters resolved to join the national protest which will take place in Abuja on Thursday, July 18, after which the two unions will announce a date for nationwide industrial action.
Comrade Salisma and Yusuf, noted that the government has not shown any convincing commitment on the payment of the withheld salaries and resolutions of other pending grievances.
The unions further stated that it is disheartening that the national leadership of the Joint Action Committee was at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment but the minister of state was not on seat to receive them.
