The Secretary to Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njoɗi has tasked the newly inducted medical doctors graduated by Gombe State University (GSU) to prioritize their home state and county in service for humanity despite enticing jobs abroad.

Professor Njoɗi gave the charge during the 5th Attestation Ceremony and 2nd Idris Muhammad Lecture organized by the College of Medical Sciences, Gombe State University (GSU) in Gombe.

The secretary who doubles as chairman of the occasion and represented by Professor Mu’azu Shehu Usman, Congratulated the graduands, stressing the country’s dire need of highly qualified medical experts especially in addressing public health concerns like Covid-19.

Professor Njoɗi said the state government, teachers and parents of the new doctors have sacrificed a lot in making them what they are, advising them to reciprocate the gesture by diligently serving Gombe People and Nigerians.

He said despite numerous challenges faced by the county’s health sector and enticing job benefits abroad, the new doctors should make their people a priority for better health services.

While congratulating the new doctors for attaining to this enviable heights, the chairman appreciated their hard work and dedication to learning.

In his welcome address, the Provost Gombe State College of Sciences Professor Muhammad Manga said the college has graduated and inducted 56 medical doctors this year, making its graduands to 185 in 5 years.

While appealing to the new doctors on the need to be good ambassadors of the university, the state and their parents, the provost charged them to avoid instant gratification and luxuries.

In her address, the special guest of honour and Registrar Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Dr Fatima Kyari represented by Dr Tijjani Ali, appreciated the Gombe State University Management for providing the students with conducive learning environment that made their graduation a successful one.

While assuring the new graduands of the council’s full support, the registrar said their graduation brings more hope in the country’s medical profession.

She charged them to remain serious while in their housemanship, and treat all patients with respect and care.

Dr Fatima urged parents to fully support the new doctors while on their housemanship trainings.

She encourage the new graduands to seek for more knowledge in order to update themselves with new and emerging developments.

The occasion was graced by important dignitaries, family members, relatives, friends and well wishers.
